The Itinerant Pedlar presents these very competively priced Swift-Lite charcoal discs, either in single tubes of 10 or in boxes of 80 discs. These charcoal discs are necessities for burning granular incense and magical resins such as frankincense and myrrh in incense burners, or thuribles, as they are sometimes called. When lighting the discs it is safer to use a pair of tongs, using fingers is O.K but may lead to painful burns (until you gain experience). Hold the charcoal disc in a naked flame such as a gaslighter or candle until the disc begins to sparkle across its surface. Place the disc in the thurible and wait until a thin film of grey ash covers the surface and then place apinch of incense into the depression in the disc. Do not overload it or you will smother the disc and have to start again. BE CAREFUL, the disc gets hot, the thurible gets hot and the surface that it stands on can get hot. Traditionally spent charcoal and incense was disposed of in running water, today it is best to use the W.C. or sink. Charcoal discs and incense that seem to be extinguished can set fire to wastepaper baskets etc. SO TAKE CARE and enjoy your incense.
